Channel 3 won't be the same without you!! I hope you end up at another station in CT, I'll definitely be switching. Best of luck, Darren - a huge loss for the Channel 3 Team!!

I am so bummed to hear that you are leaving Channel 3! Guess I will have to go back to having my weekend morning coffee with the competition. Hope to see you on air again soon - I will be watching for you.

Channel 3 Doesn't know what they are doing!!!! I can't believe they are letting you go. Considering the competition...I mean you have the talent, and the looks..what do the other stations have....? Garrett? Ryan??? A huge loss for the Hartford market. I wish you the best! Bigger and better things are waiting for you. This was just your stepping stone.

One weekend morning I turned on Ch.3 to get the latest weather. And much to my surprise there stood this tall, dark haired handsome guy. I quickly called my best friend to tell her to check out the new guy on Ch 3's weather. From that day on I have watched you every chance I have seeing you grow into a charming TV personality. Your knowledge of the weather along with the interaction you have with the anchors have turned into quite the morning show. Darren you will be missed...what a great loss for Ch.3. Not sure where your future is but if you plan to stay on air in CT. I will be sure to tune in. BEST of LUCK DARREN!

Wait, is it true channel 3 is LETTING YOU GO?! Why? I hope they realize they will be losing me as a viewer. I depend on my accurate weather from you!

Anonymous said...

We enjoy watching your weekend weather reports. You are factual and entertaining at the same time- two important qualities lacking at the other local stations. You will be missed. Gotta love management.

Anonymous said...

One door closes and another one opens...we know we'll be seeing you somewhere bigger and better. It's such a pleasure to watch you and I guess now we can just get the weekend weather off the internet!!! For now!!!

Why any station would let someone go who is an area native with a built in fan base and community is a bit beyond me. That's such an illogical choice, especially because it is also someone who is great at his job and attractive to watch. Smart move Channel 3! I'm sure you competition won't be so clueless. Good luck with your new better job, Darren. You should be national anyway!!!

Anonymous said...

Dear Darren,

I have enjoyed your company especially when I've had a bout of insomnia. I flip on Channel 3 in the wee hours of the weekends and there you are. A friendly face and charming personality.

This is going to be the best thing that ever happened to you. Just wait and see.

You'll move on to bigger and better like gorgeous Natalie Morales did to the Today Show in NYC! So many CT anchors like you with real talent and good looks make it big. No matter what, you are a huge success and I will tune you in where ever you go. You should be proud! Best regards.

Anonymous said...

Darren....we go where you go!!!! Channel 3 is losing one of the best. Your knowledge, your ability to captivate viewers and your personality will all be missed. I have been a loyal viewer from the day you started and will now follow you to which ever station is smart enough and quick enought to offer you what you deserve. We'll be watching and waiting..

Just this weekend during the horrible thunderstorms we had I put on Channel 3 ( the only station to have a special report on at the time) and thought "Wow, what a class act, Darren is". On the weekends, I grab my coffee and look forward to my "Darren & Jess fix"....Channel 3 should realize you get what you pay for. Can't wait to see what intern they replace you with, but then again once you leave....I won't be watching Channel 3 anymore. Best of Luck, get ready to move on to bigger and better!!!!

Anonymous said...

Darren,
You will be missed. You are an important part of Channel 3, you attracted many viewers with your charm, knowledge, not to mention you are easy on the eyes. Even my children enjoy watching you..there have been many times I've heard the yell from the other room "Darren's on!!!"...Channel 3 is going to lose many viewers!!! We will miss you and will follow you to your next station. What a huge loss for Channel 3!!!

Anonymous said...

Unreal...that's about all I can say. We've watched since day 1, after that other loser stopped filling in...we can just as easily switch, too. Which we have done before and will do again.

Anonymous said...

Darren-

You will be greatly missed. Our entire family has been watching you since day 1 (even our 4 year old looks for you each weekend). You have captivated an audience of all ages. Channel 3 will not be the same without you. I know that this is just a sign of bigger and better things for you and we will follow you wherever your new venture may take you. It is a shame to see you go....I don't know what they were thinking, but no one out there can even come close to you and your professionalism as a meterologist. Best of Luck!

Anonymous said...

Darren-

Sorry to hear you are leaving Channel 3. Weekend mornings will never be the same! We hope to see you back on the air very soon. All the best to you, it is Channel 3's loss! --Jules

Darren, you are a class act and deserve better than Ch 3. Unfortunately, the TV biz has more than its share of idiots, and, somehow most of those people end up in positions where they can make stupid decisions that deprive viewers of true talent.
Maybe if you got implants or botox they'd re-sign you... naaaah, forget it, you're better than that!

Anonymous said...

I can't believe Channel 3 isn't renewing your contract....not sure what they are thinking...you have perfect weatherman hair! I watched you when you were on in Springfield... I'll follow you anywhere for your concise accurate weather...We know you'll land on your feet...we'll be looking for you on all the other channels...hopefully they'll make you a 5 day a week guy!

Unknown said...

Darren, it's their HUGE loss! You now are holding all of the cards and can move on to a bigger and better station! I wish you nothing but the best! And, hopefully, the powers that be realize they have lost another viewer!

Anonymous said...

I started watching Darren when I was in search of a TV personality w/ sophistication and command of his time on the air. He was suave and most accurate w/ his forecasts.. now Ill have to go back to awful channel 8 and their boring slobbish on-air drones.. We will all miss you Darren.. I hope you stay in CT so we wont have to tune too far up the channel dial to see you!

Anonymous said...

Darren,
I too woke up to the terrible thunderstorms at 4 am the other morning. Turned on the tv and there you were like you always are, wide awake, looking good and keeping us informed ! I will miss you terribly but luckily if I ever need an accurate forcast I only have to venture a few doors away. Best of luck I'm sure there are bigger and better things waiting for you !

As a newcomer to the area, I was pleasantly suprised one weekend to find you on the air. Finally an experienced weatherman with a personality. I am hoping to find you on another local station with much more air time. Channel 3 is crazy to let you go, instead of pushing you out the door, they should be begging YOU to become a part of the weekday or evening team. I will be looking for you and following you to your new station. Best of Luck

In such a competitive business this is a terrible loss to Channel 3 but even more so to those who enjoyed watching and listening to such a new and upcoming talent as Darren. He always wanted to return to New England. I can't continue to watch Channel 3. I thought for sure he would eventually move into Scot Haney's early AM slot after his new AM show began. I know you will continue to be successful because of your integrity and talent and work ethics. SHAM ON YOU CHANNEL 3. YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE; BUT YOU WILL KNOW WHAT YOU HAD AND LOST AFTER AUG 6TH FOR SURE. GO DARREN GO!!! WE LOVE YOU!!!

Speeddiva8 said...

It's a shame that he's going, but I'm sure he'll find a better place to be. Out of all of the guys on air, you were the best!

Personality, on-camera charisma and forecasting skills...you have it all. They'll be kicking themselves, once you're gone! Ratings will plummet!

Anonymous said...

I hate to see you go, Darren. You add so much to the channel 3 team. You know your stuff, and are so good looking. What a combination!

My favorite weather team and the channel I watch for my local news. Such a shame that greed wins every time.

I wish you all the best, and remember good people get good things. Just have faith!

Anonymous said...

Channel 3 is losing one of the best weather reporters that they have ever had. Darren is one of the main reasons I watch channel 3. I think they are making a big mistake. Because of this decision, I will be switching to channel 8 and channel 30. Best wishes to you Darren, I know you will be sucessful.

Anonymous said...

Wow. I'm shocked. First of all, as Darren's personal pumpkin carver, I swear to never sculpt another meteorologist out of produce again.

But on a more serious note, I'm so sad to hear about this. Like everyone else has said, I can easily watch another channel. Darren is the reason I started watching 3 in the first place. Smart, funny, and yeah, just a little bit handsome. ;) Charismatic and actually responds to viewers' emails.

Please keep us posted on where you're going!

Unknown said...

After you leave I will be like "Channel 3...what Channel 3??" They certainly will never find anyone as interesting or good looking.

Hang in there brother!

DARREN-

I CAN'T BELIEVE CHANNEL 3 IS LETTING YOU WALK OUT THE DOOR.

PERFECT EXAMPLE THIS PAST WEEKEND WITH THE STORMS. YOU WERE UP TO DATE WITH THE STORM COVERAGE. YOUR KNOWLEDGE, ACCURATE FORECASTS AND PERSONALITY WILL BE MISSED.

I BELIEVE YOU HAVE THE WORK ETHIC TO MOVE ON AND THE ABILITY TO POSITION YOURSELF IN A MARKET THAT WORKS FOR YOU.

YOU WILL BE MISSED AND HOPE YOU DON'T GO TO FAR. I WILL BE LOOKING FOR YOU!

PS--CHANNEL 3 THIS IS HUGE LOSS FOR YOUR TEAM BUT AN OPPORTUNITY FOR DARREN TO MOVE FORWARD.

SAG.....Sorry to see you go Darren. I'm an early morning person and I love seeing you in the mornings. I will miss you in my home giving me the weather and I wanted you to know you will be missed. Hope to see you somewhere else and know I will be looking to see your face again on tv and know I will be turning to that station for sure. All the best to you in the future. Wow!! I was shocked to hear Darren is leaving. Channel 3 you really screwed up big time! Definitely their loss! what are they thinking?!?!?! It might be time for me to switch to another channel!
I loved that Darren was born and bred in CT..he's one of us!! And he always made me understand weather!

I used to love him and his co-anchor on weekend mornings in Springfield and then when i moved back home, i was thrilled to catch him here! gotten so use to him giving me the weather as i sipped coffee or ran around and got ready.

Well like so many TV news people who've worked here, he'll move on to bigger and better.

Darren if you get this message...Best of luck to you!! You will be missed!
Hope to catch you on tv again someday.

Wow, I am so shocked to hear that channel 3 is letting Darren go. He is professional, knowledgable, entertaining. Why in the world would they want to replace him? He seems to be one of the only meteorologist that actually knows what he is talking about. To the executives at channel 3, you just lost yourselves a viewer! Looks like I'll be tuning into NBC for all my news and weather. Darren I will miss your forecasts on the weekends. Hope to see you on TV again soon.

Anonymous said...

I can't believe it! Who made the decision to let Darren go? First thing, every morning I turn on Channel 3 to watch Darren. He has the technical knowledge combined with personality and good looks. What else is there??? Looks like back to The Today Show on 30 for Me.

Anonymous said...

Darren

"Don't know whatcha got until it's gone". Shame on Channel 3 for not recognizing the talent and charisma you brought to their newscasts. The chemistry between you and Jessica is fantastic - you can't fake that. Your accurate forecasts and ability to keep viewers entertained for 3 hrs straight is a combination that will bring you continued success wherever you go. Onward and upward, my friend. Looking forward to seeing you at the competition!

Hearing that Darren will be leaving Channel 3 was really bad news! I thought they finally had someone with the expertise and personality that could replace Bruce when he retires (way down the line, hopefully!)

Darren, there will be great opportunities out there for you! You're the "full meal deal" - great looks, great talent, great personality - so some station will be MORE than happy to snap you up. You also mentioned you may think of a career change... good luck with whatever you decide to do - you'll be GREAT no matter what you do!

Channel 3, I'm sorry, but you've lost me! Darren was the perfect counterbalance to Mr. Hiney, who's just a little too much for me in the mornings!

Anonymous said...

Channel 3 will lose a lot of faithful viewers. We go where you go!! Weekends will not be the same without you. Good luck, we will be waiting to see you again, SOON!

Anonymous said...

I knew of Darren leaving because a friend of mine that works at ch 3 told me his contract was not being renewed, so I passed this website to my entire address book and asked everyone to do the same. I can't believe ch 3 wants to get rid of him All about the $$ and benifits so show your support for Darren.

Anonymous said...

Channel 3 is there anything that the viewers can say or do to keep Darren on WFSB. This is huge loss for channel 3. Well.. I want to wish you best of luck in your next career move. Sorry you had to fill in for the horrible beach wedding forecast a few weeks ago...you would have done a better job with the fog updates. You will be missed!

Anonymous said...

Darren,

You are one of my favorites at Channel 3. I was shocked to hear of you leaving the station, and can't understand why management would do such a thing. You have an awesome personality, you are very good looking, and you provide professional forecasts.

Please don't feel bad (although I do), as I'm sure a more educated station will notice you (I would) and hire you on the spot without even an interview. Hopefully, with FOX61 expanding their news department, they will hire you as a meteorologist. Even NBC30 would be good for you.

You are one of the good ones Darren. Keep a positive attitude and MANY good things will come your way.

Hope to see you soon!

Sincerely,

Chris, Newington

Hey D...I'm so sad that my mornings will not be the same soon. I remember one morning when my husband and I were flipping to see the weather for the day and there you were! I didn't realize you were back in CT until that morning...and from that point on Channel 3 became our regular station....before that we were flippers. It was great to see you every weekend and you covered some great weather stories! Keep me posted on where you land next. What a loss for Channel 3...but good news for the next people! I know you will do well wherever you go!

MIGHTY NICE FORECAST, D!!!
Your friend, Erin

That is going to be a big loss for Channel 3. I'll have to start watching a different station on the weekends - please let us know where you are going. You will be successful whatever you do and whereever you go. Good Luck!!! Everything happens for a reason :)

Darren Sweeney is a monster when it comes to covering severe weather! What a loss to Channel 3 and the whole community to lose him!!!

Unknown said...

Darren, I'm sorry to have read that Channel 3 is letting you go. Not only were your forecasts informative but you presented them in a way that was professional and not over the top like some of the other forecastors do. I also enjoied how you and Jessica Scheinder interacted with the guests on Saturday mornings and I enjoied some of the postings you had on your blog. I hope you'll be on one of the other stations here in CT. Best of luck in all you do. Best Regards. Mike Corso

Boo Channel 3! - you highly disappoint me and have lost me and my whole family as viewers because of this poor decision. Darren is an excellent weatherman and a home grown TV personality. Best of luck Darren in moving on to bigger and better things. You are too good for them and they don't know what they are doing.

Anonymous said...

I am outraged at this news that Channel 3 is letting Darren go! He was a pleasure to watch, charming, and talented. Poor move Channel 3 you just lost so many viewers by letting go a CT born and raised native because your station is cheap. I will be swearing off your station because of this.

Anonymous said...

I could NOT believe what I read in the paper today. I just saw Darren out in downtown Hartford and I approached him.
He was a genuine, nice guy...and he was so humble about what was happening. Darren, I watched you all the time, I'm a news "junkie" as I told you...but I will be looking for you, because you don't have an ego like most other TV folks...and you do a great job!
Come on guys (30, 8, 61, the weather channel, ha!) lets get him back on the air...SOON!
Good luck, Stacia

Anonymous said...

The station and its management are of such poor quality that I am glad someone of Darren's caliber is moving on to a better job. He is the best educated, articulate and well liked weatherman they have on the air. Darren is one more casualty to add to the list of talented people being axed on a whim by a station manager who resents anyone with genuine talent and ability. WFSB's mediocre line up of broadcasters reflect the leadership's 'dumb and dumber" level of intelligence. Darren will be scooped up by NBC30 or another local station and his viewers will follow him. He was the only reason I would watch the station on the weekends.

LeAnn said...

Sweeney is dreamy! I saw him Thursday night and he was a super sweetie! I believe he said he was sticking around here with another station!

Another screwup for Ch3, Last year they dumped Rachel Lutzker when she told them she would be leaving after the first of the year, I guess CH3's management didn't like that very much so they told her to "leave now"
Good luck Darren!

I truly believe that WFSB is making a HUGE mistake by letting you go! You are the best meteorologist out there and I will be watching for you to sign on with another local channel. I would definitely switch over to watch you. Channel 3 has really gone down hill the past few years. They let Rachel Lutzger go and brought in the immature Theresa LaBarber! They are crazy! I wish you lots of luck in the future and this will be a blessing in disguise for you I think. I will shed tears as I watch your last broadcast and that will also be the very last time I ever watch Channel 3 news. I will be watching NBC 30 from here on in! We love you here in Wolcott Darren! We will miss you terribly!!!!

Anonymous said...

I can't believe they are letting Darren go. Why is it that so many good weather, news or traffic people get let go. Does Ch3 really think that this is going to help there ratings??? NOT!!! I wasn't happy to find out that they had let Rachel go, now this... whose next... Mike Hydek or someone else that is so down to earth.

Anonymous said...

I so much enjoy the weekend Channel 3 news with you and Jess. Your delivery is so natural(not like the weekday guy)it is a pleasure to watch. This move makes you wonder who is next.(watch out Jess you're too nice)The best to you in the future and I hope it's in this market.

I started watching Ch 3 on weekends when Darren came home to CT. Having met Darren some years back, I can honestly say that his personality comes out on air, which some of the other peronalties seem to be lacking. The station has let some good talent go and this may be the biggest mistake yet. I will follow D wherever he goes - we love you!

Darren sorry to hear you will be leaving, not of your choosing. It is a shame WFSB will not renew your contract, and keep someone who thinks he is a weather man,but more like a comedian.I will miss your weekend broadcasts, very professional. , another reason for me not to watch WFSB.Hope you land a position in another CT station.

Anonymous said...

Channel 30 has had its share of talent come and go and I think it had an effect on how viewers look at the station. Channel 3 (I thought) valued the team and has promoted it on many commercials. Darren Sweeney is a fit at that station, he has family values and a personality that the public can relate to. There are many people that can come on and "do the job" but can they connect with the viewers like Darren does? The management better have a damn good reason for messing with something that wasn't broken in the first place.

Anonymous said...

Darren the Wolcott School community loves you! You will have a following where ever you go... Channel 3 WAKE UP! Maybe there should be some changes in the management.

To echo a previous post, Darren Sweeney has much too much class to walk in front of others on the set with immature antics. Is this what Channel 3 wants? Darren, good luck to you! You'll do just fine! Redbone.

What a shame Darren is leaving. A home grown boy who connected with community and was a true professional.

Instead they choose a wanna be weatherman who is more like a screeching (his singing, he actualy thinks he sounds good)puesdo comedian and clown who's forecast is usually wrong and is too busy running around playing little childish games with the most uniformed and ditzy traffic bimbo.

Darren was a perfect counterbalance to the bafoon on in the mornings. He also not only was a class act, professional and approachable.

I too met him in Hartford and he was the most modest, kind and genuine person. Unfortunately I also met the clown (haney) and the nerd, god's gift to pretty people (dixon) as well and they were both rude and uppity as though they were better than the group I was with.

Funny, they get rid of the real deal and they keep the clowns and egomaniacs. I guess that is what 3 is about.

I am now glad, Gayle, Dawn, Sara, Brian, Rachael, etc, have all moved on to bigger and better things at companies that appreciate them.

Darren, you were a class act and a true professional. We will follow you to your next station.

Good bye to the channel 3 circus.

Darren, I'm really sorry to hear that you are no longer with Ch 3. I was shocked to hear that you were leaving when I tuned in Sunday evening; but when I found out WHY I was totally shocked! I've always said everything happens for a reason even if we don't always know what that reason is right away. Mark my words, something good is waiting for you around the corner that you may not have considered if you were still under contract. I know good things are coming your way. God bless you.

My husband and I were very upset with the announcement last night that you, Darren, would not be around anymore.

Your forecasts, unlike others, were always accurate. We appreciated the depth of your knowledge. Weather is a hobby of mine and I greatly appreciated when you went a little deep into an explanation. You are an intellectual person's weatherman.

It is unfortunate the the most unprofessional moment I have ever witnessed in local broadcast news involved you. I will never forget when your (former) co worker called you 'verbose'...all because he didn't like the smell of a cup of coffee. I was appalled at the name caller and embarrassed for you. To be honest, it shed a whole new and very unattractive light on this former co worker and I have never felt the same about him again.

We hope to see you again in the Connecticut airwaves soon. We'll be looking for you and following you to a new home.

WFSB continues to throw its talent out the window. So many losses (Dawn Hasbrouck, Ray Daudani has disappeared, Rachel Lutsker) only one gain...we still rejoice that Diana Rocco is gone. God Bless you for working with her.

I have been an avid viewer of WFSB for many years. I have seen some of the most talented people leave that station due to lousy management. I was not aware that you did not leave of your own accord until I read it on the web. I think you were one of the most talented and professional weather forecasters the station ever had. Since Channel 3 decided NOT to renew your contract, I have decided not to be a viewer of WFSB any longer. Good Luck Darren, you will truly by missed by many of us!!

You were just so relaxed with everyone, you will be so difficult to replace. Best of luck in Fla. Things happen for a reason. Their luck definitely is our loss!

Darren, Channel 3 is making a big mistake in not renewing your contract. [established fact] I've seen you develop more confidence and great poise over the past two years. I always enjoyed your reporting and your engaging personality. You even had me sending in family stories about what we did to cope with the 'dog days' of August before air conditioning! It made us feel a part of the show, a dialog of sorts. I will miss you on the weekends and wish you every success in your bright future...It's channel 3's loss and they are short sighted enough not to realize it.

Hi everyone,
A little bird told me Darren will be back on the air (on another channel) very soon...
We'll be switching to whatever Channel, cuz there is just noone fun to watch on weekends now.
See you soon Darren!

If the last comment is true (Darren staying in CT), then I too will be switching channels. I really miss Darren on the weekends! He and Jess made a great team. It's not the same without him. Best of luck to you Darren, in whatever you do and wherever you go. You're greatly missed!!!

Perhaps I've been in a state of denial. It took until today to look you up, Darren, online, to see where you were after weeks of not seeing you on-air. I thought for sure one day you'd be gone due to a national station stealing you away from the lucky local guys. WHAT A SHOCK! I am very particular when it comes to television personalities; it seems as though I see through the cheese pretty quickly. You have always been terrific to watch; so engaging with anchors, guests and the community, with your blog and more. To repeat the sentiment once again, Channel 3 really has no idea what kind of talent they were so lucky to have. You are a genuine, charming professional; qualities I don't see anywhere else in this field. THANK YOU! Hope to be watching you again soon.

I just read on the Hartford Courant's TV section that WFSB weekend anchor Erika Arias has also just been shown the door. I'm now wondering if Fox 61, in gearing up for a noon, six and 11 set of newscasts, are considering hiring Darren and/or Erika. They'd be welcome additions to the team there in my humble opinion.

It's time to bring back Darren to television. I think FOX61 should indeed hire him as a meteorologist and like Rachel Lutzker, he can maybe host feature segments on one of their newscasts or be a host of a newscast.

I never appreciated him for his talent until he left, and now I realize what a talent he is.

D$ is going to Channel 30! He starts Sunday October 4th at 7am!

It was awesome to see him again, and I think WVIT is a great fit for his abilities. They take their weather very seriously, as does Darren. Best of luck to him!

Congratulations to Darren for joining NBC30. I'll watch 30 just for him. I taped the 7AM newscast and he jumped right in like a pro. It's like he was there all along. This is WVIT's best hire in a long time. Darren will be an asset to 30and I bet one day he'll make it to chief meteorologist.

This move is a plus for 30 and for Darren. He even gets to work in his hometown.

Good luck Darren!
